Althea Presents Multiplex Pcr Data Related To Toxicogenomics
Althea's quantitative, multiplex PCR technology, eXpress Profiling™, can successfully monitor the impact of compounds on the expression of selected genes for early toxicological screening in a high-throughput format.
SAN DIEGO – March 12, 2003 – Althea Technologies, Inc., a leader in gene expression analysis, announced today that it presented data illustrating that its quantitative, multiplex PCR technology, eXpress Profiling™, can successfully monitor the impact of compounds on the expression of selected genes for early toxicological screening in a high-throughput format.
The presentation by Dr. Gordon Vansant at the Society of Toxicology annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, showed gene expression analysis data for cells treated with compounds in a 96 well format. The versatility of eXpress Profiling allows for the screening of 20 to 100 genes for multiple plates in a very short period of time. Gene expression analysis of 160 samples, plus control samples, was achieved by running just two plates in less than one day. The potential of eXpress Profiling allows for the screening of thousands of compounds per day.
“We are excited about the potential of eXpress Profiling to save researchers time in obtaining the necessary toxicological information to move their projects forward,” stated Dr. Joe Monforte, Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at Althea. “We believe eXpress Profiling is a highly efficient, cost effective, and informative way to prescreen potential drug candidates for toxic effects and efficacy.”
eXpress Profiling is being utilized for many applications; including disease modeling, target discovery and validation, toxicological screening, compound evaluation, and agricultural breeding. Althea offers the eXpress Profiling technology both as a service and for licensing.
