Prostate Tumor Presence Assay
AltheaDx is developing a molecular diagnostic test to confirm prostate cancer in pathologically ambiguous cases.
Approximately 1 million prostate biopsies are performed each year, with 20% positively identified as new cancer; however, up to 30% of negative core biopsies are pathologically ambiguous cases.
AltheaDx' proprietary Tumor Presence Assay, (TPA), targets pathologically ambiguous cases where small atypical features present in core biopsies.
TPA test features:
- High overall accuracy
- Minimized need for second biopsy
- Quicker diagnosis, earlier treatment, and better outcome

The test takes advantage of the tumor “field effect” and is comprised of direct and indirect genes, as shown above.
- Stroma reactive genes: Genes present in peripheral stroma that are altered due to nearby presence of tumor
- Tumor unique genes: Genes that are either uniquely expressed or highly over-expressed in tumor
